Covid-19 Policy and Procedures

It is of great importance that each of us involved in this retreat do all that we can to protect the health of everyone attending, as well as the health of the ongoing residents, monastics and Abbot of Yokoji Zen Mountain Center, with whom we will share the grounds and meals during our stay there.

We also understand that Covid-19 is an evolving phenomenon and as such, all policies outlined are subject to updates, revisions and changes at any time.  Once registered, Sarah will contact participants with information about any change to the policy below.  Please read it in detail before registering.

  • We will follow county, state, and federal (CDC) Covid-19 guidelines that are currently in place, along with additional safety protocols in an attempt to stack mitigation strategies, including limited capacity for this retreat.

  • We will require the following 3 conditions be met in order for someone to attend the retreat:

1. Vaccination

  • Yokoji Mountain Zen Center requires all staff, teachers, and practitioners must be fully vaccinated with vaccines for COVID-19 two weeks or more before arrival. Proof of vaccination with boosters will be required after registration is complete.

2. Symptom Free

3. Negative COVID-19 Test

  • Participants must make arrangement to test themselves the morning/ early afternoon of the first retreat day (June 9, 2022) before departing locally for the retreat.

  • Take a photo of negative test results.

  • You will be asked to show the photo of your negative results upon arrival & check in. Individuals will not be admitted to the retreat if the test result is positive for COVID, or without proof of a negative test result from June 9, 2022.

  • You can request 4 free at home antigen tests to be delivered to your home here.

  • Leading up to Retreat

    • If in the 10 days prior to the retreat (beginning on May 31, 2022) you or anyone in your household has Covid-19, cold or flu-like symptoms, or if you are known to have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19, you are required to notify Sarah promptly and seek out a PCR test. You will not be allowed to attend the retreat until your receive Negative-for-Covid PCR results.

      • We ask that you take extra care in the 10-14 days leading up to the retreat to minimize risk of exposure as much as is possible.

      • You might consider arranging for a PRC test several days before the retreat as a precautionary measure in case you will need it, and cancel the appointment in the event of not needing the test.

    • Should a participant test positive for Covid-19 anytime in May 2022 and up to retreat date (June 9, 2022), they may only attend the retreat once they have experienced 10 consistent days (after the positive test) without a fever and with symptoms steadily improving or resolving completely.

  • Masks: At the time of this writing, all participants will be required to wear high quality types of respirators or masks (N95, KN95 or KF94) in all shared indoor spaces, except for in housing structures and when showering/bathing. Please bring two or more of these masks to be used during the retreat. Sarah will supply you with an appropriate mask if you do not have one.

    • Masks are not required in outside spaces when physical distancing of six feet or more can be generally maintained.

    • You may be asked to leave the retreat if you do not properly wear your mask.

  • Ventilation: we will keep common spaces as well ventilated as possible.  Please be advised that this means cool evenings may require warmer dressing; please bring layers.

  • Dining

    • The dining area is a three-walled structure with plenty of open air ventilation and offers lots of outdoor seating.  Please maintain a bit of distance from others while eating, as much as is possible.

  • Symptom Check: We trust that all practitioners, staff, and teachers will monitor their symptoms daily with integrity and communicate to Sarah (or a designated support person) the development of any symptoms that might indicate a Covid-19 infection. Thermometers will be available for use, or feel free to bring your own.

  • Sick Policy: If a retreat participant becomes sick, they will be asked to remain in their room / to isolate from others, and if serious, return home. If a person tests positive for COVID-19, they must leave the retreat.

  • Covid-19 Specific Cancellations:

    • In the event of a wave of severity of Covid-19, Sarah and/or Yokoji Zen Mountain Center will postponed this retreat and reschedule it for a later time. In this case, all payments will be fully refunded.

    • If a participant cannot attend because of a positive Covid test within the 10 days leading up to the retreat, their payment will be fully refunded. Documentation of the positive test with the date will be required in order to process the refund.
